As a consequence of the low participation of citizens in electoral processes, a Decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation amending articles 132 and 204 of the Federal Labor Law (the “Law”), same articles that refer to the obligations of employers with respect to their employees.
Considering that election days are held on Sundays, the legislators considered it pertinent to provide citizens with greater possibilities to exercise their right to vote in case they work on that day.
With this amendment, employers are obligated to give their employees the necessary time to vote in popular elections and recall processes, as long as it does not hinder their departure at the determined date and time.
