On March 7, 2024, NOM-006-STPS-2023 (“NOM“) was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (“DOF“). This Mexican Official Standard addresses occupational safety in facilities where storage and material handling activities are carried out through the use of machinery.

The NOM addresses the obligations of both employers and workers, which include the following:

– To have procedures and manuals for the maintenance, use and installation of machinery.

– Provide training to workers involved in the use of machinery.

– Keep records of maintenance and machinery overhaul.

– Provide both the appropriate protective equipment and safety measures responding to the particularities of each operation and its risks.

The NOM will come into force 180 days after its publication in the DOF (September 2024). Likewise, as of said date, NOM-006-STPS-2014 will no longer be in effect.
